Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) is an extract that comes from the seed of the Jojoba bush. It is often referred to as an oil which is incorrect as it is more of a liquid wax. The liquid wax esters contained in Jojoba are much like our skin’s sebum which make it a natural choice forskin care.
Why Jojoba is great for skin care
Due to Jojoba’s unique characteristics, it is one of the most beneficial additions to your skin and hair care routines. It returns your youthful glow, balances oil production, eliminates shine and restores hair. Jojoba contains amino acids and proteins similar to collagen, which is known to support youthful, beautiful skin and hair.
Face & body care with jojoba oil
One of the advantages of Jojoba is its versatility. It is non-comedogenic, has gentle antibacterial and soothing properties that help to calm and balance the skin. Jojoba can be used as a moisturizer, a make-up remover, to condition and protect skin, to balance acne prone skin, to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and to nourish hair, lips, and cuticles.
Jojoba is often blended with other nutrient-rich oils when used for facial care. There is a synergistic effect of combining oils that can enhance the effectiveness of the individual components. Jojoba blends well with sweet almond, rosehip seed, argan, calendula oils among others.
Face Oil Recipe
A simple base recipe would be equal parts of Jojoba and Argan oil. Both are appropriate and beneficial for all skin types. You can then add additional oils based on your specific skin type issues being addressed, i.e.
Rosehip seed is wonderful for its regenerative properties – good for mature, dry or normal skin.
Borage is beneficial for acne prone skin as it is high in oleic acids.
Evening primrose supports most skin types including mature, acne prone and normal or combination skin.

1 tsp of additional oil
When choosing to use Jojoba on its own it is best to start with only a few drops. For Jojoba to be most effective use only the amount that easily absorbs into the skin; this will vary from person to person. Some people may find that due to their skin type the combination of oils is most beneficial.
As a make-up remover:
Apply Jojoba to a cotton pad and use to gently remove makeup.
Delicate area around eyes:
Jojoba oil effective to care for the delicate skin around the eyes. With regular use, you will notice skin is moisturized, nourished and fine lines and wrinkles diminished.
Acne prone and other skin conditions:
For those with acne prone, dry irritated skin or who experience conditions such as psoriasis, Jojoba can help to balance, nourish, hydrate and soothe skin. For acne, Jojoba helps to balance sebum production and also offers antibacterial properties to reduce or prevent new breakouts. For psoriatic skin, Jojoba can soothe and nourish skin, providing comfort and health of the skin.
Jojoba is a hydrating and soothing lip balm. Just put a few drops on your finger and move the oil on the lips. Use as often as desired.
Hair care with Jojoba:
This may seem surprising, but Jojoba is suitable for any hair type. It nourishes and moisturizes dry hair; if the hair is oily, then Jojoba helps to cleanse the scalp of excess fat and eliminates dandruff. Jojoba is very good at treating brittle, splitting hair. Unlike other oils, it is perfectly absorbed, so it does not leave greasy marks on the hair. On the contrary, the hair appears light,flowing, acquiring a healthy appearance and natural shine.
Jojoba oil serves as an excellent thermal protection for hair. If you regularly do styling, put a couple of drops of Jojoba on your hands rub together then apply to the wet hair ends before you use any heated styling tool. This will protect your hair from the harmful effects of high temperature.
Deep conditioning hot oil treatment: For deep treatment hair mask, rub warm Jojoba into your hair roots and then spread it over the entire length with a comb. Wrap a towel around hair and let sit for an hour. Wash hair as usual. Use once a week to maintain the beauty of the hair.
